® 125 mg tablet: Each film-coated tablet contains Cefuroxime Axetil USP equivalent to Cefuroxime 125 mg.

equivalent to Cefuroxime 250 mg.
Indications
Respiratory tract infections, for example, acute and chronic bronchitis, infected bronchiectasis, bacterial
pneumonia, lung abscess.
Ear, nose and throat infections, for example, sinusitis, tonsillitis and pharyngitis.
Urinary tract infections, for example, acute and chronic pyelonephritis, cystitis.
Soft tissue infections, for example, impetigo, cellulitis, erysipelas, peritonitis and wound infections.
Gonorrhea.
Other infections, including septicaemia, meningitis and Lyme disease.
Dosage And Administration

Urinary Tract Infection 250 mg; 12 hourly 7 to 10 days
Gonorrhea The usual treatment is of 1 g single dose
Early Lyme disease 500 mg; 12 hourly 20 days
Pediatric Patients (who can swallow tablets whole)
Acute Otitis Media 250 mg; 12 hourly 10 days
Acute Bacterial Maxillary Sinusitis 250 mg; 12 hourly 10 days

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.
Drug Interactions
It is important to consult with doctor before taking this drug with probenecid, a gout medication. If diarrhea occurs
while taking Furotil
®, consult with doctor before taking an anti-diarrhea medication. Certain drugs, such as
atropine sulfate and diphenoxylate hydrochloride may cause diarrhea to become worse. Cautions should be taken
when taking potent water pills (diuretics) such as furosemide while on Furotil
®. The combination could affect
kidneys.
Pregnancy And Lactation
Pregnancy category B.
Studies revealed no evidence of embryopathic or teratogenic effects due to cefuroxime, but, as with all drugs, it
should be used with caution during pregnancy.
Since cefuroxime is excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when administering this antibiotic to a
nursing mother.
Side-Effects
Diarrhea, fever, sore throat and headache, seizure (black-out or convulsions), jaundice (yellowing of the eyes or
skin), nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness, insomnia.
Overdose
Over dosage of cephalosporin can lead to cerebral irritation and seizures. With seizures the drug should be
discontinued and appropriate anticonvulsive and supportive therapy should be administered. Serum levels of
cefuroxime can be reduced by haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.

Storage
Store in a cool and dry place below 30 ºC.
