Progut 40 Capsule:Â Each capsule contains Esomeprazole Magnesium USP equivalent to 20 mg Esomeprazole as enteric coated pellets. Progut 40 Capsule: Each capsule contains Esomeprazole Magnesium USP equivalent to 40 mg Esomeprazole as enteric coated pellets. Progut 20 Tablet: Each tablet contains Esomeprazole Magnesium USP equivalent to 20 mg Esomeprazole as enteric coated tablet. Progut 40 Tablet: Each tablet contains Esomeprazole Magnesium USP equivalent to 40 mg Esomeprazole as enteric coated tablet. Progut IV Injection: Each vial contains sterile Esomeprazole Sodium INN equivalent to 40 mg Esomeprazole.
Pharmacology/Description:
Esomeprazole is the S-isomer of Omeprazole. It reduces gastric acid secretion through a specific targeted mechanism of action. It is a specific inhibitor of the acid pump in the parietal cell.
Indication:
Progut Capsule/tablet: ProgutTM capsule/tablet is indicated for the relief of heartburn and other symptoms associated with gastro esophageal reflux diseases (GERD) and for the healing of erosive esophagitis, a potentially serious condition associated with GERD. The FDA approved Esomeprazole is also indicated in combination with Amoxicillin and Clarithromycin, for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with duodenal ulcer disease. ProgutTM IV Injection: ProgutTM IV Injection is indicated for gastric antisecretory treatment when the oral route is not possible. Such as: Bleeding peptic ulcer, Short-term treatment of GERD (Upto 10 days), Erosive Esophagitis (EE), Pre and post operative hyperacidity and Hyperacidity in patients with non-surgical NPO status.
Dosage And Administration:

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Healing of erosive esophagitis 20 mg or 40 mg Once daily for 4 to 8 weeks*
Maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis 20 mg Once daily *
Symptomatic gastro-esophageal reflux 20 mg Once daily for 4 weeks *
H. pylori eradication to reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer recurrence
Triple therapy:
Esomeprazole 40 mg Once daily for 10 days
Amoxycillin 1000 mg Twice daily for 10 days
Clarithromycin 500 mg Twice daily for 10 days
* Depends on the severity of the disease. Chemical and physical in-use stability has been demonstrated for 12 hours after reconstitution with 0.9% Sodium Chloride solution or for 6 hours after reconstitution with 5% Dextrose solution. From a microbial point of view, the product should be used immidiately. Any unused portion should be discarded.
Side Effects:
Ingeneral, Esomeprazole is well tolerated in both short and long-term use. Common side effects are headache, diarrhea. Other effects include nausea, flatulence, abdominal pain, constipation and dry mouth.
